Physiotherapy in Koh Samui

Real physiotherapy, not a heat pack and a handout. At Body Tune Up in Bophut, physiotherapy means a thorough assessment, skilled hands-on treatment and a progressive rehab plan designed to get you back to what you do, whether that's surfing, running, lifting, playing with your kids or getting through a workday without pain.

Our physiotherapy service is led by Tanny, a physiotherapist with more than ten years of clinical experience, and it is backed by the same root-cause philosophy that runs through everything we do at Body Tune Up.

Hands-on treatment at Body Tune Up, Bophut

Understanding it

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the clinical treatment of injury, pain and movement dysfunction using hands-on therapy, exercise and evidence-based modalities. A good physiotherapist does two jobs: calms down the problem, then rebuilds the capacity of the body so the problem doesn't return.

Most places stop after the first job. We don't. Pain relief without strength, control and better movement is just a countdown to the next flare-up.

How it shows up

What we treat

  • Sports & activity injuries

Ankle sprains, muscle strains, tendon problems, runner's knee, tennis and golfer's elbow, shoulder injuries from surfing, paddling and overhead sport.

  • Back, neck & nerve pain

Mechanical low back pain, disc-related pain, sciatica, stiff necks, forward head posture and tension headaches.

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation

Structured recovery after knee, shoulder, hip and ankle surgery, from early mobility through to full strength and return to sport.

  • Chronic & long-standing pain

Plantar fasciitis, persistent tendinitis, frozen shoulder and old injuries that have never fully recovered.

The difference

Why physiotherapy at Body Tune Up is different

We treat the cause, not the location. Knee pain often comes from the hip or foot. Shoulder pain often starts in the upper back or with a stabilizer that has switched off. Our assessment looks at the whole chain.

Our physiotherapy is also hands-on. Where a lot of physiotherapy relies on machines, Tanny combines skilled orthopedic and soft tissue massage with her treatment, so the problem gets worked on directly. And we combine disciplines most places keep separate. Tanny has trained in NeuroKinetic Therapy® directly with Jory, so she can test which muscles are underperforming and which are compensating. She is also trained in Redcord and Neuromuscular Integration. Behind her is our director, Jory Serota, an international NeuroKinetic Therapy® instructor, educator and author of Applied Yoga for Musculoskeletal Pain™: Integrating Yoga, Physical Therapy, Strength and Spirituality, who trains physiotherapists and doctors around the world. The clinical standard at Body Tune Up is set by someone who teaches it.

Our method

How we treat you

  1. Functional assessment

A full history, movement assessment, orthopedic testing and NeuroKinetic Therapy® muscle testing to find what is actually driving your pain. If anything points to something that needs a medical opinion or imaging first, we will tell you.

  2. Hands-on treatment

Orthopedic massage, joint mobilization and soft-tissue work, combined with Kinesiotaping where it will help support the area between sessions.

  3. Progressive rehabilitation

Targeted strength, stability and mobility work, progressed session by session, plus a clear home program so you keep improving between visits.

Your visit

What to expect

Your first visit is a 60- or 90-minute assessment and treatment. Bring any scans, reports or surgical notes you have, and wear clothing that lets us see and move the area involved (shorts for knee, hip or back problems, a tank top for shoulder or neck).

You will leave your first session understanding what is causing your pain, what we are going to do about it and roughly how long it should take. Many clients feel a meaningful change within the first few sessions. Post-surgical and long-standing problems progress more gradually, and we don't promise fixed timelines.

No doctor's referral is needed.

FAQ

Physiotherapy — common questions

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. You can book an assessment directly. If we think a medical opinion or imaging should come first, we will tell you.

Can you help me after surgery?

Yes. Post-surgical rehab is one of our core services. Bring your surgical notes and any instructions from your surgeon, and we will build your program around them.

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem. Many clients notice clear improvement within a few sessions. Chronic tendon problems and post-surgical rehab usually need a structured program, which is why we offer 5- and 10-session packages.

I'm only on Koh Samui for a short time. Is it still worth starting?

Yes. We front-load treatment, give you a clear home program and make sure you leave knowing exactly what to keep doing after you fly home.

What's the difference between physiotherapy and massage at Body Tune Up?

Massage focuses on hands-on soft-tissue treatment. Physiotherapy adds clinical assessment, joint work and a progressive rehab program. They often work best together.
