Sports Massage in Koh Samui

At Body Tune Up, sports massage is targeted, assessment-led work built around how you train, what you load and where your body is starting to complain. It is not just a harder version of a spa massage.

Koh Samui is full of people who push their bodies: Muay Thai fighters, trail runners, divers, CrossFit athletes, tennis players, kite surfers and travelers who hike every viewpoint on the island. When training volume climbs, tissue stiffens, recovery slows and small niggles turn into injuries. Sports massage is how we keep that from happening.

Understanding it

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a focused form of manual therapy aimed at the muscles, tendons and fascia that take the load in your sport. It combines deep tissue release, trigger point work, myofascial techniques, stretching and joint mobilization, and it changes depending on where you are in your training cycle.

Before an event it is quick and activating. After a race or competition it is about flushing out fatigue and restoring range. During heavy training it is maintenance: finding the tissue that is getting overloaded before it becomes the reason you have to stop.

Who it's for

Built for people who train

  • Endurance athletes

Runners, cyclists, triathletes and swimmers dealing with tight calves, cranky hamstrings, IT band irritation and hips that won't open up after long sessions.

  • Fighters & combat athletes

Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA athletes carrying heavy shin, hip, neck and shoulder load from pad work, sparring and rolling in the heat.

  • Strength & CrossFit athletes

Lifters whose squats, overhead positions and pulls are limited by stiff hips, thoracic spines and shoulders.

  • Divers, surfers & racket players

Repetitive shoulder, neck and low back demands from paddling, finning and overhead strokes.

The difference

Why our sports massage works

Most "sports massage" is a generic routine with more pressure. Ours starts with a question: why is this area overloaded in the first place?

Tight calves are often the downstream result of a hip that isn't doing its job. A sore upper trap is frequently compensating for a stabilizer that has switched off. Rubbing the sore spot feels good for a day. Finding the reason it's sore is what keeps you training.

Our massage work sits inside the same clinical framework as the rest of Body Tune Up. The team is trained in functional movement assessment, and our director, Jory Serota, is an international NeuroKinetic Therapy® instructor who spent six years on the professional tennis circuit keeping touring players on court. That thinking runs through every session.

Our method

How a sports massage session works

  1. Quick screen

We ask about your sport, your current training load, upcoming events and any past injuries, and we look at how you move. That tells us where to spend the time.

  2. Targeted hands-on work

Deep tissue release, trigger point therapy, myofascial work and sports-specific mobilization, focused on the areas that matter for your sport rather than a one-size-fits-all full-body routine.

  3. Keep it working

You leave with one or two simple mobility or activation drills so the change holds between sessions. If we find something that needs more than massage, we will tell you and point you to the right service in the facility.

Your visit

What to expect

Wear or bring comfortable clothing. Sessions run 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Pressure is strong where it needs to be, but it is always adjusted to you. Sports massage can be intense, but it should never be something you have to grit your teeth through.

Timing matters. Book a lighter session one to two days before a race or fight and a deeper session two to three days after. If you are in a heavy training block, one or two sessions a week is the most effective way to use sports massage.

FAQ

Sports Massage — common questions

Do I need to be an athlete to book a sports massage?

No. If you train, run, lift, surf, dive or hike, or if your job has you on your feet all day, sports massage is built for you. The session is shaped around what your body does, not what level you compete at.

How is sports massage different from deep tissue massage?

They share techniques. Sports massage is organized around your training: timing, your sport's demands and getting you back to performance. Deep tissue / medical massage is organized around a specific pain problem or injury.

Should I get a sports massage before or after an event?

Both can help, but they are different sessions. Before an event we keep it light and activating. After, we wait a day or two and go deeper to restore range and reduce stiffness.

Will it hurt?

Some areas will be tender, especially ones that have been overloaded. Pressure is always adjusted to you. Effective work does not need to be painful.

How often should I come in?

During heavy training, once or twice a week works well. In lighter phases, once a week or every other week is enough to stay ahead of problems.

Can sports massage fix an injury?

Yes, it can. It also speeds up recovery and reduces pain. If we find something that needs physiotherapy or NeuroKinetic Therapy®, we will tell you and point you to the right service in the facility.
