Orthopedic & Soft Tissue Massage in Koh Samui

Physiotherapy should be hands-on. At Body Tune Up, it is.

A lot of physiotherapy today means lying under a machine: a heat pack, some electrical stimulation, a sheet of exercises and you're done. We do more. Tanny, our physiotherapist, combines skilled orthopedic and soft tissue massage with her physiotherapy treatment, so you get a clinician who knows the injury and actually puts her hands on the problem.

Understanding it

What is orthopedic massage?

Orthopedic massage is clinical, assessment-led soft tissue therapy aimed at injuries and musculoskeletal pain. It combines deep tissue release, trigger point work, myofascial techniques, stretching and joint mobilization, chosen specifically for the injury in front of us.

What makes it orthopedic is the thinking behind it. The therapist understands the anatomy, the injury, the healing timeline and what the tissue can tolerate right now. The work changes as you recover: gentle and protective early on, deeper and more mobilizing as the tissue heals.

How it shows up

What we treat

  • Sports & overuse injuries

Muscle strains, tendon pain, IT band irritation, tennis and golfer's elbow, and shoulders overloaded by surfing, paddling or lifting.

  • Back & neck pain

Guarded, protective muscles around a sore low back or stiff neck, including pain that refers into the buttock, arm or head.

  • Post-injury & post-surgical stiffness

Scar tissue, lost range and tight, guarded tissue after a sprain, fracture or surgery.

  • Joint pain & restricted movement

Stiff hips, frozen or impinged shoulders, and knees that won't fully bend or straighten.

The difference

A physiotherapist with skilled hands

Machines have their place, but they don't find the knot that's pinning your shoulder blade, feel which part of a muscle is guarding, or notice when a joint stops moving halfway through its range. Hands do.

Tanny brings two skill sets that rarely live in the same person. She is a physiotherapist with more than ten years of clinical experience and a specialist in orthopedic massage. That means your soft tissue work is guided by a proper physiotherapy assessment, and your physiotherapy includes real hands-on treatment, not just equipment and a handout.

She has also trained in NeuroKinetic Therapy® directly with our director, Jory Serota, so she can test which muscles are overworking and which have switched off, and target her hands-on work precisely where it will make a difference.

Our method

How a session works

  1. Assess

A short history, movement assessment and orthopedic testing to understand the injury, what's driving it and what the tissue can handle today.

  2. Hands-on treatment

Targeted orthopedic and soft tissue massage, trigger point release, myofascial work and joint mobilization, matched to the injury and its stage of healing.

  3. Lock it in

Simple corrective exercises so the change holds, plus Kinesiotaping where it will help support the area between sessions.

Your visit

What to expect

Wear or bring comfortable clothing that lets us reach the area involved. Bring any scans, reports or surgical notes you have.

Pressure is firm where it needs to be and gentle where the tissue is still healing. It should never be something you have to brace against. Some soreness for a day or two afterwards is normal. Most clients feel a clear change in pain and movement after the first session.

FAQ

Orthopedic & Soft Tissue Massage — common questions

How is orthopedic massage different from deep tissue massage?

They share techniques. Orthopedic massage is delivered by a physiotherapist and guided by a clinical assessment of your injury. Deep tissue / medical massage with Ael is ideal for tension, stiffness and recurring pain. Orthopedic massage with Tanny is best for injuries, post-surgical recovery and cases that need physiotherapy alongside hands-on work.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No. You can book directly. If anything in your history suggests you need a medical opinion first, we will tell you.

Is it safe after surgery or a recent injury?

Yes, when it's done by someone who understands healing timelines. Tanny adjusts pressure and technique to what the tissue can tolerate at each stage.

Will it hurt?

Injured areas can be tender, but pressure is always adjusted to you. Effective work does not need to be painful.

How many sessions will I need?

Many clients feel a real change after the first session. Injuries and long-standing problems usually need a short series, combined with corrective exercise.

Why don't you use more machines?

Machines can help calm symptoms, but they don't change how tissue moves or how your body loads it. Skilled hands-on treatment and the right exercise do. That's where we put our time.
